This year the Rotary Club of Tywyn and Race the Train made a commitment to try and recycle as much of the rubbish generated at the Saturday event as possible. Greener Tywyn Gwyrdd were asked to coordinate the volunteers to help achieve this goal.
The day went very smoothly and the weather was kind thank goodness! We had lots of willing volunteers to help us sort through all the rubbish throughout the day and pull out all recyclables to be collected by Gwynedd Council.
These photos taken midway through the day illustrate the impact this made on the amount of rubbish being sent to landfill. The clear bags are for recycling and the black bags for landfill. By the end of the day the pile was more than twice this size once we had sorted all the rubbish that came down from the water stations on the race route.
So many thanks to all our volunteers, Mathieu Gasquet, Joanna Houseman, Michelle Bain, Ffion, Emily, Ra Elliot, Donna Harris, Diane Eccles and Alistair Johnston, and thanks to Nancy and the Rotary Club for giving us this opportunity to make #onegreenchange alongside the people of Tywyn.
