Gwynedd Council declares Climate Emergency

Gwynedd Council declares Climate Emergency

Yesterday Gwynedd Council declared a Climate Emergency at the full council meeting in Caernarfon and pledged to do everything in its power to make the county carbon neutral by 2030.

The motion, which passed unanimously, was proposed by Cllr. Catrin Wager and seconded by Cllr. Mike Stevens.

During the discussion which preceded the vote, Steve Churchman stated, “This motion is a no-brainer. We have to act and we have to act fast!”

This urgency was backed up by Cllr. Paul Rowlands who said, “We need to change gear and do things on a greater scale by going further than being Carbon Zero by 2030, planting more trees and using new technologies.”

The next logical step would be for the Welsh Government to declare a climate emergency. You can support the motion by signing the e-petition on the National Assembly for Wales website.
